Objective
Diagnose the existing userflow, interface and overall user experience of a localized Google Maps API instance.
Process & Solution
The existing map interface suffers from default UI clutter, disorderly tab navigation and hidden functionality. My redesign focused on remediating the barriers to usage these present.
Colleagues & Teammates
The project was ordered by the Director of Web and Mobile Services, who provided direction and prioritized institutional focus. I was the sole designer working on this assessment.
Visual Ability
The pre-defined nature of Google’s map service limited creative interpretation, instead leveraging design fundamentals like hierarchy in service to function.
Tools & Skills Used
The interactive prototype was created using Adobe XD.
Results
In providing an actionable solution to improve usage, a hi-resolution/interactive prototype illustrates my design recommendations. As the project was speculative in nature, these changes have not yet been made to the live copy of the application.
