Auernig Auto Body is an automotive body repair shop based in Roseville, California. Auernig attracts car owners from across central California.
An established and reputable service business, AAB’s dated web presence only answered basic information. Functional issues aside, the existing site didn’t mention the value of choosing Auernig. Although becoming mobile-ready motivated the redesign, the message, positioning and experience aspects needed the most attention.
Process
My redesign sought to set Auernig apart from his more generic competitors. By surveying the client, follow-up phone conversations, and an analysis of competitor behavior and his market position, I was able to establish the shop’s commitment to consumer advocacy as the primary focus of the site. Separating fleet repair from residential customers helped to focus the specific benefits of each market. (The Fleet side has yet to be built.)
Knowing that the content of the page would not change, the one page design is plenty. The longer page design uses graceful animation for a smooth scroll between sections. Animation is a new normal in contemporary design, adding a professional polish not seen in his competitors’ sites.
The design prioritizes the contact essentials necessary in a service business home page. By placing a job tracking link and phone number at the top of the page, return users have ready access to the status of their vehicle without having to hunt. This is especially true of the mobile layouts. A more complete contact form and address information comes towards the bottom of the page. The text sells a new visitor on the advantages before asking anything of them.
Constraints
This was a smaller-scale job with limited visual design included in the scope. I introduced lighter variations on the existing drab color scheme to create contrast and brighten the design. The site has aged well and has not required any real effort to maintain over the past two years.
